Alpha Blondy Storms Ghana

Ivorian reggae superstar Alpha Blondy has added his name to the tall list of dignitaries that have endorsed the Humanity Peace Cup involving Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko later this year. Known in private life as Seidou Kone, the dreadlocked African ambassador has pledged to be part of the Bridgewater Childrens Village campaign in support of Kayayei (female head porters). Speaking to Daily Guide Sports, the consular officer of the Cote dIvoire embassy in Accra, Marc Konan Kouassi said preparations for the arrival of the songster are far advanced. He affirmed that his office had already presented the invitation to their Culture Ministry in Abidjan who would be working with Blondy for his coming to Ghana. He is hoping to do a peace concert in Ghana. Alphas music brought peace to Liberia, he did the same in bringing peace to Cote dIvoire and wants to be associated with peace promotion in Africa, said Kouassi. Alpha Blondy is expected to wrap the performance at the Labadi Beach with proceeds from that concert going to support Kayayei. Blondy, who will be performing in both Accra and Kumasi, is also a staunch supporter of African unity, with a large following among Moslem communities and Israelis among others. Some of his hit tracks are Peace in Liberia, Why should black heroes die so soon in reference to South Africas Steve Biko, Bob Marley, Martin Luther King, Kwame Nkrumah, among others.
