Tractor Operator Charged For Robbery

Felix Ametepey, former driver and tractor operator of the China Railway Construction Company who attacked the company�s accountant and bolted with GH� 50,000 on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. The accused has been charged with robbery contrary to section 149 of Act 29/60. He pleaded not guilty to the charge but was remanded into lawful custody to re-appear on September 7, 2012. The Prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick A. Morkeh presenting the facts of the case said the complainant, Xian Zhou is an accountant with the China Railway Construction Company and resides at Achimota whiles Felix Ametepey was a former driver and tractor operator of the same company. He said on March 1, 2012, at about 1400 hours, the complainant and the accused on board the company�s vehicle went to the Ecobank, headquarters, Accra to withdraw money for the payment of salaries of the workers. He said on reaching Dzorwulu, on their way back to Achimota after cashing the money, the accused attacked the complainant by sticking his over grown finger nails on his neck and face, which resulted in injuries. DSP Morkeh said the accused then took the bag containing the GH� 50,000 and bolted. He said the complainant made a report to the Police and he was issued with Police medical form to attend hospital for treatment. He said a publication was made in both the print and electronic media for his arrest. DSP Morkeh said on August 16, 2012, Police intelligence revealed that the accused was hiding at Tefle in the Volta Region. He said the Police therefore proceeded to Akatsi and caused his arrest. He said one Massey Ferguson tractor was retrieved from him but accused claimed the tractor belonged to one Bernice Ackam. He said the accused stated that he used some of the money to cultivate ten acres of maize farm at Kpetoe. DSP Morkeh also said the accused stated that he gave GH� 20,000 to a taxi driver who drove him from the crime scene after the driver had threatened to hand him over to the Police.
