Expatriate Remanded For Assault

A 36-year-old expatriate, Mihails Lancevs, who allegedly assaulted a pilot at Takoradi Aiport, has been remanded in police custody. The suspect, said to be an employee of Gulf Offshore Logistics, allegedly slapped the air force officer after he (suspect) was prevented from boarding an Accra-bound aircraft. At the time of the boarding, Lancevs was said to be drunk and holding a cigarette lighter, which the officials felt was a threat to flight safety. Additionally, he was said to have used offensive words on the officials who advised him not to board the aircraft with cigarette lighter. According to the Takoradi District Police Commander, Supt. Kojo Nkansah, Lancevs is to appear in court on August 28, 2012. He said when Lancevs arrived at the Takoradi Airport to board an aircraft to Accra; he was told that he was not in the right condition to join other passengers for the trip to Accra. He said the suspect allegedly did not take kindly to the advice by the attendants and other junior officers on duty. Mr. Nkansah said when the pilot came to calm Lancevs� nerves, the suspect allegedly slapped him. He said Lancevs was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police for the law to take its course
