Arrested Former Ivorian Minister Denied Bail

A Human Rights Court on Wednesday refused a bail application filed by lawyer for former Ivorian Minister Justin Kone Katinan. The former minister was arrested in Ghana by national security officials based on an arrest warrant issued by Ivorian Authorities on his return from South Africa. His lawyer Patrick Sogbojor applied for Habeas Corpus to have him produced before the Human Rights Court. But the judge ruled on Wednesday that the continuous detention of Mr. Katinan is lawful as he has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Osu. Speaking to Citi News, lawyer Sogbojor said they will appear before the magistrate court on Thursday to make argument as to why the remand should not be extended and the bail application be granted.
