ECOWAS Foreign Ministers Meet In Abidjan To Consider Sanctions Against Mali's Former Military Junta

West Africa Foreign Ministers will be meeting today in Abidjan to consider imposing stiff sanctions on members of Mali's former military junta who appear to be influencing the interim government. Communications Director of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Sonny Ugoh says the ministers will also review recommendations by Defense Chiefs for deploying troops to Mali. The meeting of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council follows the road map of the chiefs of the Defense Staff for deployment in Mali. Mr Ugoh said the ministers will also review the situation in Mali within the context of the invitation of ECOWAS to come and assist the government to restore the territorial integrity of the country, particularly in relation to the issues in the north.
