Stop The "Flimsy, Baseless Personal Attacks" - NDC Warns NPP

The John Mahama 2012 Campaign Team has counseled the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to up the ante in the political discourse and desist from unwarranted personality attacks. The NPP led by its Deputy Communication Director, Yaw Buaben Asamoah on Wednesday accused President John Mahama of dabbling in corrupt projects that have robbed the country of precious resources. The NPP said the STX Housing deal fiasco as well as many alleged corrupt practices that the NDC administration has been implicated in clearly shows that the government is too corrupt and that Ghanaians must vote them out. My Buaben Asamoah further accused the president of forcing the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to defray a loan of GH57.2 million which the presidents brother, Ibrahim Mahama, failed to pay to Merchant Bank bringing the company to the brink of insolvency. But a statement signed by the Director of Communication of the John Mahama 2012 Campaign Team, Ms. Hanna Tetteh called on the NPP to raise the level of political discourse to a higher level of decency and debate to focus on the issues of most concern to Ghanaians and not flimsy, baseless personal attacks. The statement said the content of the NPP press conference is not worth public time, as it brings home no issues worthy of consideration by the good people of Ghana, adding that it was simply an attempt to malign His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. According to Ms. Tetteh, President Mahama did not terminate the contracts between the Government of Ghana, CP, Rockshell and Alfred Woyome nor did he pay $264 million to the STX Construction Limited as is being bandied around by the NPP. The statement said the NDC Government of the Late President John Atta Mills, and now President Mahama has focused on bringing development across the country. The people of Ghana heard these affirmations in the tributes that were paid to the Late President Mills, and these have reflected in the public endorsement of President Mahama as he has travelled the length and breadth of this country. The statement said unlike the speech writers of the NPP, the NDC officials believe that Ghanaians are more discerning and once the NPP has decided to make the character of the candidates the main issue of the campaign, Ghanaians will be the better judges and will select the better man for the high office. We have taken note of the fact that the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo have proceeded to launch a viral attack on facebook and other such social media platforms in the vain hope perhaps, that once allegations and slander are planted online they will at some point be repeated in the print and electronic media as news. Desperate people try desperate tactics, and as the good book says, by their fruits you shall know them, the statement stressed. The campaign team said at the appropriate time respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies will respond in detail to all the allegations of corruption levelled against government officials so as to clear the issues. The statement however indicated that the Campaign Team will make public transactions that were concluded during the NPP administration, and properties that were acquired by NPP functionaries, or sold by the NPP Government to their business cronies so that voters are reminded of the facts surrounding the transactions the previous administration was involved with."
