NDC Sinks CPP

The Convention Peoples Partys (CPP) single parliamentary seat, the Jomoro Constituency seat, currently being occupied by Samia Yaba Nkrumah, is under siege by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). The 'Finder's sources say internal cracks within the CPP in the constituency have been left to widen. This has led to a number of dissidents within the partys hierarchy jumping over to the NDC along with a number of CPP supporters who voted for the incumbent MP in the last elections. We are witnessing mass defection to the NDC. The reason is that the CPP is not strong in the constituency, but the MP won because of certain considerations and that would not count again in this years election, our source stated. The environment for Ms Nkrumah, the national chairperson of the CPP, has been worsened by the defection of one of her main financiers for the last elections. The man who financed her campaign in 2008 has deserted her. As we speak, the man is canvassing votes for the NDC, winning the CPP youth to our camp, the source said. The anonymous financier has a very good relationship with the current President John Dramani Mahama, according to Mr. Mathias Iddirisu Mumuni, the first vice chairman of the NDC in the Jomoro Constituency. Mr. Mumuni alleged that Ms Nkrumah has disappointed her Jomoro constituents with unfulfilled promises. He argued that the MPs fathers name, which featured prominently to favour her in the last elections, would not help her this time. It is her performance which is the issue this time, he said. Mr. Mumuni also claimed that that communities along the coast of Jomoro have benefited significantly from numerous projects under the Better Ghana Agenda. Standing for the NDC in the constituency is WG CDR Francis Anaman, who has retired voluntarily from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to contest the seat. The New patriotic Party (NPP) is also putting up Mr. Joseph Ewoniah, a popular figure in the constituency. Making the matter more complicated for Samia is the Progressive peoples Partys (PPP) Ms Margaret Blay Kenya, a popular business woman. PPPs leader, Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum was CPPs flagbearer in the 2008 elections. In the 2008 election, Ms Samia Yaba Christiana Nkrumah got 19,916 votes, that is, 50 percent of total votes cast; Mr. Lee Ocran, from the NDC, came second with 13,345 votes, representing 33.5 percent; while the NPPs Martin Nyameke Ackah got 6,345, equivalent to 15.9 percent of total votes cast.
