President Mahama Says Equity And Accessibility To SHS Are Priorities In Governments Agenda To Expand Education

President John Mahama says that the NDC will promote equity in education especially at the SHS level in order to enhance the FCUBE which is a constitutional obligation. He said it is not right to promote free SHS when only a few people have access to it. To this end, the NDC will concentrate more resources to improve access to education by building more Senior High Schools when it is retained in power next year. President Mahama said this when he launched the NDC's Winning 2012 Manifesto at Ho in the Volta Region. President Mahama also hinted of the construction of 10 new Training Colleges for teachers who will fill the vacancies at the new SHS to be created. He said government will increase the subsidy for feeding at SHS to reduce the financial burden on parents. At the basic level, President Mahama said there will be specialised training of Kindergarten Teachers to equip them with the necessary skills to impart knowledge to children during their formative years. President Mahama promised to expand affiliation of Polytechnics in order to graduate them into fully fledged Technical Universities. He said more public universities will be constructed as well. President Mahama described as hypocritical for the NPP to say the economy has been mismanaged since it has transformed into a middle income one. He further pledged to lead the NDC into the transition of the economy to a full middle income one. Touching on Energy, President Mahama stressed that the NDC government will deal with the issue of load shedding and make it a thing of the past. This is because by 2015 Ghana will be producing about 10,000 megawatts of power and be a net exporter of electricity. Speaking on corruption, President Mahama said he is prepared to appear before the appropriate authority to be investigated since rooting out corruption is high on the NDC's agenda.
