Ghana Police Deny Pro-Gbagbo Training Camps In Ghana

The Western Regional Police Command has denied knowledge of any training camps set up by exiled Ivoirians in the country. A UN expert panel report has indicted Ghana for habouring exiles supporting Ivory Coast's former President Laurent Gbagbo who have established a base in Ghana from which they are working to destabilize the current Ivorian government. But speaking on EyeWitness News the Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ransford Ninxon explained that such allegations have come up several times after the shooting incident at Noe which claimed about four lives and resulted in the subsequent closure of the Ivory Coast border. According to him, his outfit so far cannot confirm if the allegations are true as their checks have yielded no such results. He said: �We have tried to check around and see if anything of that nature is happening but we haven�t gotten any concrete proof so we will continue to search to see whether the allegations they are making is true or not.� DCOP Ninxon however gave the assurance that the matter is being investigated saying, �we have instructed our crime officers to be nosing around to find out whether these allegations are true. We have also put our men on the borders to also patrol and find out whether there are intrusions from either Ghana to the Cote D�Ivoire. So we are assuring the public.� �We shall be on top of the situation and find out if anything of that nature is happening� he added.
