Dr. Joseph Mamboa Rockson, Interim General Secretary of the National Democratic Party (NDP) has resigned from the party, accusing the NDP of not pursuing the reason for which it was formed. Speaking to Peace FM�s correspondent, Kwabena Ntow, Dr. Mamboa Rockson said he decided to resign because the core aim of the NDP; for which it was formed was to bring back accountability, probity, transparency and social justice which the NDC relegated but that has not being done. According to him, he decided to go back to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) because it has a new leader who has promised to restore accountability, probity, transparency and social justice. �I resigned from the NDP for two reasons: firstly, the project of the NDP was to try as much as possible to bring back the principles of probity, accountability, transparency and social justice that the NDC had relegated. That was the time when the former President John Evans Atta Mills was around. Now we have somebody (President John Dramani Mahama) in command who has made gestures severally in his speech indicating that he is prepared to bring back those values�� he said. The NDP is scheduled to hold its maiden congress on Saturday, 13thOctober to elect its executives and flagbearer. According to Dr. Mamboa Rockson, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party decided not to go ahead with the congress since it was too close to the December Elections. However, former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings objected to it. �The NEC which is the decision body of the NDP has met several times deciding that this is not the time for us to go congress and elect a flagbearer because of some problems and we communicated this to the former first lady who objected to it completely�there was no need for me to stay in the office without doing anything so I have decided to resign�� he added. This is the second high profile resignation to hit the NDP after Dr. Ofei Agyemang also resigned from the party. Meanwhile, the entire block of the Upper East regional executives have resigned and rejoined the NDC. According to them �they have come to the realization that they were misled to join the NDP and it has become clear that the NDP was just formed for the purpose of destroying the NDC by the former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings".
