Akufo-Addo Passes EC Test

After satisfying the Electoral Commissions requirements, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership on Wednesday filed the nomination papers of its Presidential candidate, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo. In addition, the party paid GHC 1,000 per head for all its 275 Parliamentary candidates. The partys General Secretary, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie presented the documents to the Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan. Speaking exclusively to Citi News, elated NPP National Chairman, Mr. Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey said, We just prayed that we were able to at least pass the exam in this instance and Insha Allah by this evening we will have 275 Parliamentary candidates too because we have paid all their fees here. The message has gone out to the district offices that their fees have been paid, they have all been told that they should have all their papers; even before we did the primaries this weekend for the forty five constituencies we told them to come and show their tax clearance certificates and all the documents had to be in place. Reiterating the NPPs goal for the December elections, Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey said, The goal is very simple, the goal is to win the Presidency and win a majority of seats in Parliament so that we can deliver proper governance. In a brief comment, the Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan said, Your candidate has officially become candidate as from today, until today he was a prospective candidate and for now he is a fully fletched candidate, we wish you well and hope that you will play by the rules and that we will have a very peaceful elections. The NPP Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was there and expressed his joy over the development. I think it is a mile stone as part of the process towards the election; you have to file your papers and they have to be accepted; our Presidential candidate Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo filed his papers today, they were checked and accepted by the EC so I think it is a very good development in the process towards the election. He added that, It just means that now we can have our peace of mind in terms of not having to worry about the filing processes and so on, we can get back onto the campaign trail and get the work done. Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia will begin his one week campaign tour of the Upper West Region on Thursday.
