Teenage Robbers Terrorise Kumasi Residents

The police have waged �war� on gangsters of young armed robbers operating within the Asawase community in Kumasi. The gangsters said to be between 13 and 15 years, operate during the evening rush hours. According to the police, the criminals target lotto operators, barbering salons, provision stores located within the vicinities of the Central Mosque and Asawase market. Police said the modus operandi of the gangsters were to move in small groups on motor bikes, armed with dangerous implements and local guns which they use to terrorize the victims. Some residents and traders the Ghanaian Times spoke to, said they thought the police was not doing enough to arrest the culprits, saying they were afraid the fight against armed robbers in the metropolis should be intensified. Superintendent Opare Ofosuhene, the Asawase District Police Commander, when contacted confirmed report of robbery of three shops and said the police were making frantic efforts to counter the gangsters. He said some residents in the Asawase area had informed the police about the atrocities meted out to residents by the gang, stating that the police had not lost the fight against armed robbers. The District Commander, therefore, assured the public that the gang would definitely be brought to book for peace to prevail in the area.
