Yamoah Ponkoh In Trouble Again

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ejisu/Juaben, Yamoah Ponkoh, is in big trouble following alleged negative remarks he made against NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo on radio. The NPP presidential candidate, according to reports reaching DAILY GUIDE, was planning to haul Yamoah Ponkoh to court to seek redress should the MCE refuse to retract a false report he made about him recently. Yamoah Ponkoh reportedly said on Hello FM in Kumasi that Nana Akufo-Addo tried to assassinate former President and NDC founder, Jerry John Rawlings about four years ago. According to the NDC kingpin, who could not produce any evidence to buttress his claim, Nana Akufo Addo attempted to eliminate Mr. Rawlings in Kumasi in the heat of the 2008 elections. The host of the programme, King Edward, pushed Yamoah Ponkoh to the wall to produce evidence to support the wild allegation that he made against the NPP flagbearer on air but the NDC guru could not do so. King Edward then called DCOP Opare Addo, who was then the Ashanti regional police commander, to verify from him whether Nana Addo indeed tried eliminating Mr. Rawlings in the region in 2008. In his response, DCOP Opare-Addo disclosed that as far as he was concerned, a brawl almost took place between the security details of Nana Addo and Mr. Rawlings during a visit to Kumasi during the 2008 electioneering campaign. Recounting what started the near-brawl between the two camps, he said a man in Mr. Rawlings camp tried taking a picture of Nana Akufo-Addo, who incidentally was lodging in the same hotel with the former president. According to him, the people in the Nana Akufo Addo camp did not take kindly to Mr. Rawlings mans action so they confronted him and this nearly resulted in a brawl between the two camps. DCOP Opare Addo said his outfit was informed about the matter and the police managed to restore order and peace between the Nana Addo and Rawlings camps. He emphasised that it was not true that Nana Akufo-Addo tried to assassinate Mr. Rawlings in the Ashanti Region in 2008. Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE gathered that Nana Akufo-Addos campaign team was furious about the wild allegation being peddled against the NPP leader by Mr. Ponkoh, which it believed had the potential of tarnishing Nana Addos reputation. The NPP flagbearer, according to information reaching the paper, had therefore warned Mr. Yamoah Ponkoh to retract his statement in the coming days or risk being hauled to court.
