I Will Reconcile Dagbon - Akufo-Addo

The Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made a personal commitment to reconcile the people of Dagbon in the Northern Region. President John Mahama a few months ago stated he was willing to do anything to resolve the chieftaincy dispute between the Abudus and the Andanis and ultimately restore peace in that region. Speaking on the Dagbon conflict at a meeting with some Islamic scholars and instructors in Tamale, Nana Addo stated that it was about time peace was restored in Dagbon. He said: The time has come for us to settle these quarrels that have impeded development in Dagbon; that we find a way to promote peace and reconciliation among Abudus and Andanis. If I become president, whatever I can do to facilitate the process of peace and reconciliation I am going to do it for the sake of peace in Ghana. Nana Addo also pledged to address the matter with a clean heart and conscience saying, I want peace, I want reconciliation, and I want to see peace in Dagbon again. It will help me as a president; you as a people and it will help Ghana go forward. We want to see Dagbon reunited because it is one of the great states of our country and can be compared to Ashanti or Akyem. To have this running sore in the eyes of Dagbon is not a good thing. The NPP flagbearer encouraged the people to vote for the NPP so that they will help him promote peace and reconciliation in Dagbon. He advised the Islamic Scholars to use their influence and status as leaders of the communities and scholars to point to our people that it is more important for us to think about the future than about the past because we can do something about the future and not the past. Some of the difficulties about history is that quarrels of the past, if not taken care of, may dominate the future of our country and we dont want that to happen in Ghana. Mr. Akufo-Addo added that the leaders have a particularly important role to play in bringing peace and reconciliation to set Dagbon on a new path to prosperity and progress.
