Election 2012: EC Wont Favour Any Candidate Afari Gyan

The chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, has given the assurance his outfit will conduct the December 7 elections without favour to any party or candidate. Speaking during an Inter-Party Advisory Council meeting on Tuesday, the EC boss said the principal actors in the upcoming polls cannot fail Ghanaians who have been yearning for credible elections. He said: We cant disappoint them [Ghanaians]. To this end the EC and all the principal actors in the upcoming elections should have the same objective to conduct the various activities in such a way as to facilitate the holding of free, fair and transparent elections. Dr. Afari-Gyan stated the onus does not lie on the EC alone to discharge its duties diligently on the polling day, but all the political parties have a major role to play to put Ghana on the international map once again. The EC will do its work in a transparent manner without favour to any party or candidate. That is only one side of the coin. True democratic elections can only be held under peaceful condition devoid of violence, intimidation and any form of cheating so the electorate can freely exercise their right to choose a person they want to lead them, he said.
