Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka Sir John, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, has opined that a win for President Barack Obama will not necessarily translate into an electoral victory for President John Dramani Mahama. President Barack Obama was on Wednesday elected as the President of the United States of America for a second term in office. Obama was declared winner by a 50.4% vote to that of 48.0% for Mitt Romney, his closest challenger. Following Mr Obama's victory, some section of the Ghanaian populace, especially supporters of the ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have suddenly become overly optimistic of their chances in the upcoming elections. They assumed this position on the premise that when Barack Obama assumed office in 2008, late President John Evans Atta Mills also assumed office through the NDC. Speaking on Okay FM�s morning show �Adie Akye Ebia�, Sir John said there is no way the two situations can be the same because one was able to achieve most of the promises he made to the electorate while the other failed miserably. According to him, Barack Obama has been able to meet the expectation of most Americans and that was why he was given the second term. The situation is quite the contrary in Ghana, Sir John said, stressing that the NDC administration, has not been able to honour its many campaign promises. He indicated that even those projects that were started by the Kufuor administration have been halted by the NDC administration. �The results in the US will not have any influence in this country because most of the things promised by the current government have not been achieved. Apart from that, most of the projects that were started by the NPP have been neglected by the NDC led government; and so the situation is different. Health insurance in America is working so perfectly but there is nothing good to say about our health insurance; it has collapsed. We can call our situation a dead situation and that is why we need to change the government in power. If you look at how people are suffering in this country, America cannot be compared to this country�Obama�s win does not mean Mahama will also win�If you can pay your children's school fees, then vote for the NDC; but if you can�t pay, then vote for the NPP�� he asserted.
