NPP Distributed Affordable Houses To Cronies - E.T Mensah

The Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, E. T. Mensah has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of distributing 10 percent of the completed affordable houses to its cronies. At last Tuesdays IEA Vice Presidential debate, the Vice Presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia hit hard at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for abandoning the affordable housing units started by his party. At a news conference on Thursday, Mr. Mensah warned that the NPP has no right to comment about the delay in completing the affordable Houses. He said: About 10 percent of the houses were allocated free of charge to persons close to the NPP administration while huge sums were paid to the contractors with very little or no work done. Mr. Mensah, however, set the records straight on the 6,000 housing units left behind by the NPP saying, work is currently ongoing to complete the project. The Ghana Armed Forces have been allocated 48 units at Borteman to complete for the occupation of their offices. Work is currently ongoing at the site, he explained. Mr. Mensah added: The Tema Development Corporation are supposed to purchase and complete 110 of the one bedroom unit and 248 of the two-bedroom unit of the Kpong affordable housing site. The details are being worked on for approval.
