John Kumah Released

Information reaching peacefmonline.com indicates that John Kumah, Spokesperson for the Young Patriots, a youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been released. John Kumah, who is also a member of the Communication Team of the NPP, was arrested on Thursday morning by officials of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for unknown reasons. Speaking in an interview on Peace News @ 6pm, Richard Nyamah, an Executive Member of the Young Patriots said he is sure that some government officials who were obviously not happy with the press conference the group organized on Wednesday and the facts they put out, caused his arrest. He, however, disclosed that lawyers of the NPP youth activist have been able to secure his release. The Young Patriots, yesterday questioned President Mahama and the NDC's commitment to the Peace Pact signed in Kumasi. They also sought to find out why the President left out some schools he attended from his CV and raised red flags over Vice-President Amissah-Arthur's academic credentials. The Young Patriots also catalogued a litany of corrupt practices under the watch of the current president. Richard Nyamah alleged that the powers that be, clearly not enthused with the evidence they (Young Patriots) put out, coerced EOCO to re-arrest John Kumah, citing his lack of responsible behaviour as a reason. They realized that he (Kumah) could not be silenced and that was why they arrested him again. According to the EOCO officials he was released initially to be of good conduct but he was still organizing press conferences and pouring more allegations out. They just want to stop him from expressing his views...but we want to tell them that they will not succeed. We will continue to freely express ourselves and bring out the factsI think they didnt like it and so arrested him Richard said. John Kumah, it would be recalled, was picked up at his residence by EOCO in October this year after allegedly making spurious allegations against President Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama on Okay FMs Ghana Decides programme. But EOCO claims, he was arrested together with his business pal in connection with the falsifying of some bank guarantees. The Economic crimes body, according to sources, had wanted to use Kumah as a state prosecution witness; an idea which the NPP youth activist vehemently kicked against.
