I Will Engage My Technical People To Make Our Roads As Safe As Possible

Minister designate for Roads and Highways, Alhaji Amin Sulemani says he will liaise with the Road Safety Commission to curb the frequent road accidents on our roads. He said this in response to a question that was put forward to him by Hon. Alfred Agbesi, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ashaiman Constituency during the second day of vetting for Presidential nominees. The Honourable MP asked the minister designate what he intends to do to curb the frequent road accidents occurring on our roads. He also asked why the technical men who used to go round inspecting road and filling pot holes have stopped their work. With barely the end of the first month of the year, a lot of people have perished in road accidents while others have sustained various degrees of injuries with the recent one occurring on the Tamale-Buipe road in the Northern Region killing 24 persons. Many have wondered when these accidents will come to an end. In response to the question, Alhaji Sulemani said: I think the Road Safety Commission has a road safety education and they have got a division that can readily remove broken down vehicles from the road. I will engage them to be more efficient than they have been in the past so that they quickly take off broken down vehicles on the roads. With bad roads, its all a function of money and the supervisory roles for the agencies have been relaxed because they have inadequate logistics to move round He pleaded with the house (parliament) to consider quickly any bill that will come requesting for help for the supervisory department (technical men) to get enough logistics to move round and supervise works on the roads as well as fill the pot holes. He also touched on illegal speed ramps on some of the country's roads and vowed to ensure that professional works are done on our roads so that where there is supposed to be a speed ramp, there will be road signs to alert the drivers. I will engage my technical people in that direction to make our roads as safe as possible for people to travel he added.
