The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has terminated the appointment of its Northern Regional Accountant, Mr. Abdul Rahman Gado, and three other scheme officials of the Savelugu Nanton Mutual Health Insurance Scheme for negligence and gross incompetence in the discharge of their duties which have resulted in the loss of GH�304,123.51 to the authority.
The three are Abubakari Abdul-Mutari, Scheme Manager; Eshaq Abdul-Gafaru Sanaa, Scheme Accountant, and Tahiru Inusah, Claims officer.
The actions and inaction led to the illegal payment of the said amount to Bruham Clinic in the Savelugu Nanton District.
A statement issued the Strategy and Corporate Affairs Division of the NHIA yesterday said �after thorough investigations by the NHIA, the four were found to have been negligent in their supervisory roles. A decision was, therefore, taken to terminate their appointments in accordance with Articles 7.2 and 37.4 of the NHIA staff conditions of service.�
The statement said subsequent to claims audits conducted by the NHIA into the operations of the Bruham Clinic, the facility had been directed by the NHIA to refund the overpaid amount of GH�304,123.51 within six weeks.
The failure on the part of Bruham Clinic to make good the payment would compel the NHIA to pursue all legal means available to recover the stated amount.
�The general public is, therefore, informed that the NHIA shall not be responsible for any business conducted with the named persons henceforth,� the statement said.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Mr Sylvester Mensah, said the authority had employed measures in an effort to seal all leakages in the running of the scheme.
He said the authority would not spare any officer found culpable of any malfeasance and advised workers of the NHIA to be mindful of the important role they were expected to play in health delivery in the country.
