ECG, The Most Stubborn Company-Samuel Awuku

Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku has described Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as the most stubborn company in the country. He does not understand why tax payers pay their tariffs yet ECG does not give them value for their money. My job is to pay tax and so if I do, its expected that you give me value for moneyECG is the most stubborn company. They put off the light when they want, how they want and put it on at their own time; without any prior notice. Now, the original meaning of their name is even lost; ECG is now known as Either Candle or Generator depending on your financial status. So far as ECG continues to give us poor service, I dont see why we should continue to pay high tariffs, he said. Samuel Awuku was commenting on the ongoing load shedding in the country which to many is a worrying situation. Mr. William Boateng, Public Relations Officer of ECG in an interview with Tweneboa Kodua (TK) on Kokrokoo, said the latest load shedding is as a result of a faulty gas pipeline from a company that provides them with gas. According to him the company that provides us with gas had a faulty gas pipeline which has not been repaired as at now and so as I am speaking to you, we dont have gas that fuels the thermal and so we dont have enough generation to distribute; leading to the load shedding. Its a worrying situation; it is not intentional. There is light at the end of the tunnel; it is not a gloomy situation. It will definitely come to an end. The company has assured us that by March ending the gas pipeline will be repaired Speaking as a panelist on the same platform, Samuel Awuku questioned President Mahamas intention of promising another country; Burkina Faso of providing them with energy when he knows we (Ghana) dont have enough for ourselves. The president made so many promises that the load shedding will stop by 2013 and now it has rather aggravated. The technical brains should always give us the accurate picture on the groundsThe President went to promise Burkina Faso that we will provide them with electricity; something we dont even have enough for ourselves. Sometimes as a country, you become handicapped because you dont know the direction in which we are going. I put the blame at the doorstep of the government; 100%
