Armed Robbers Kingpin Gunned Down

The leader of a gang of armed robbers who attacked and robbed Mr. Kan-Dapaah, former Minister of Defence and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, has been killed in a shootout with the police at his hideout at Akim Oda, in the Eastern Region. The deceased, Shamsudin Attuquaye Clottey, and his accomplices were declared wanted by the police after they were captured on a close circuit television (CCTV) camera of a forex bureau which they had also robbed. The Accra Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP) Patrick Eden Timbillah, together with his Second-In-Command, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at a press briefing in Accra yesterday, said Clottey was spotted by police yesterday, riding a motorbike at the outskirt of Akim Oda. Upon seeing the police in a car trailing him, Clottey opened fire at them and the police returned fire, resulting in his death. COP Timbillah said the police found a locally manufactured pistol, five live cartridges and a master key on the body. Meanwhile, the police had also mounted a search for one more suspect (name withheld) who is also a member of the robbery syndicate.
