Apam SHS launches 60th anniversary celebration

Apam Senior High School has launched its 60th anniversary celebration with a call on old students to help tackle the problems facing the school to position it�s as a citadel of knowledge and building of character in the country. The anniversary on the theme: �Character and Efficiency: Our Heritage, Our Future, Our Bond� is scheduled to take place in October this year. Speaking at the launch in Accra, Mr Ishamel Yamson, non-executive Chairman of Unilever Ghana and Standard Chartered, said the school was currently facing many problems making it difficult to provide better learning environment for students. He said provision and renovation of infrastructure were the main elements needed to provide better learning environment for students. �Without adequate infrastructure in the school it is impossible to provide quality education�, he said. He charged all old students to contribute their quota in the development of the school. He advised the current students to reflect on the �motto� of the school �Character and Efficient� to help shape their future. Mrs Charlotte Obeng, President of Apam Old Students Association (ASSOSA), said the current infrastructure problem facing the school was making it difficult to create enabling environment for students to go about the pursuit of academic studies. She mentioned some infrastructure which needed to be expanded and renovated such as classroom blocks, dormitories, school clinic and the science block. To this end, she said, an amount of GH�500 had been levied by the association as a contribution from all well meaning ASSOSAans to raise an amount of GH�50,000 enable renovate all classrooms. �We would have like to have built something new for the school, but the state of the existing structures made sense for us to take care of those before embarking on building new ones�, he said. He tasked all year groups to identify any problem facing the school and help tackle it for the development of the school.
