Kamel Funeral Programme Unveiled

THE FUNERAL rites of the former Member of Parliament for Buem and Volta Regional Minister Henry Ford Kamel who passed away on Christmas day last year, commence on Friday February 22. Briefing the journalists on preparation towards the funeral ceremony, the Chairman of the Funeral Planning Committee, Steve Akoli, indicated the remains of late Kamel will be carried from the 37 Military Hospital to his residence at Lashibi for family members to pay their last respects. Thereafter, the body will be conveyed to the forecourt of Parliament House to allow his former colleague members of Parliament, government officials and the general public to also show their reverence. Mr. Akorli said on Saturday February 23, the remains of late Kamel would be conveyed from Accra to the Jubilee Park at Ho for an interdenominational church service. Immediately after the service, the body would be sent to his hometown in Buem Constituency where he would be buried and this would be followed by a special thanksgiving service on Sunday February 24 at Buem to climax the funeral ceremony. Mr. Akorli who was accompanied by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Youth Organiser, Ludwig Hlodze and other members of the Funeral Committee appealed to the general public to cooperate with the committee to ensure that the former Volta Regional Minister is given a befitting burial. The late Kamel was born on December 21, 1961 and was a banker by profession. He was elected to represent the people of Buem Constituency in Ghana�s Parliament in January 2005 and was re-elected to represent them for the third time until his untimely death shortly after his re-election. Late President John Evans Atta Mills appointed Henry Kamel as the new Volta Regional Minister to replace Joseph Amenowode in March 2012; a position he held until his demise in Christmas Day last year. Until his appointment as the Volta Regional Minister, late Kamel was the Deputy Minister for Lands and Forestry. He was highly praised for bringing peace to the Gbi Traditional Area in the Volta Region following a conflict between the indigenes of Hohoe and the Zongo Community.
