GRIDCO And ECG Accuse VRA of Power Rationing

The Ghana Grid Company�s Public Relations Officer, Albert Quainoo has laid blame on the Volta River Authority (VRA) for the recent frequent power outages in the country. According to Albert Quainoo, four units from the Aboadze switch yard which is under the management of Volta River Authority�s engineers have developed faults, and this has warranted the Electricity Company of Ghana to shut down 400 mega watts upon advice from GRIDCO. Speaking on Hot FM, the PRO of GRIDCO also outlined the division of services of the switches to mean that his company (GRIDCO) manages almost all the switches except those three which were faulted some days ago. According to him, the current crisis of the power outages is due to managerial crisis from Volta River Authority to man the switches well; adding that the Ghana Grid Company normally goes to the aid of Volta River Authority to manage their switches to generate power for supply. Reiterating the inability of power supply in the country, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), William Boateng, has stated that the 400 megawatts of power shut down was upon the advice of GRIDCO, would has escalated to total �black out� in four regions, namely; Ashanti, Eastern, Volta as well as the Central region William Boateng who was pessimistic about the end of this power crisis, has said that; the ECG does not know the exact time the power rationing will end as they act according to directives of GRIDCO. Speaking on the issue of blame game among stakeholders in the energy sector, a communications expert of the Ministry of Energy, Edward Bawa has charged all the stakeholders including the sector ministry to accept responsibility for the power outages in Ghana. According to him, the major problem has been the insufficient supply of fuel and the stakeholders respectively have failed to live up to expectation to iron out the crisis; revealing that out of the four units which caused this emergency power outages, two have been restored. Edward Bawa categorically stated that; �Ghanaians need an apology from all of us, being it the Ministry of Energy, Energy Commission, GRIDCO, VRA and ECG�.
