ECOWAS Adopts Anti-Terrorism Strategic Plan

President John Mahama has returned home from Yamoussoukro, Cote d' Ivoire where he participated in the 42nd Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Heads of States and Government. The two-day summit reviewed on-going efforts to restore peace, democracy and political stability to Mali and Guinea Bissau. Speaking on his return from Ecowas� 42nd Ordinary Session held in Yamoussoukro, Cote d'Ivoire, President John Dramani Mahama disclosed that heads of state present were concerned with acts of terrorism against in individual countries in the sub-region. �And so we had an Ecowas Anti-Terrorism Strategy Plan that was put before the heads of state and was accepted. It defines what terrorism is in common language and then what strategies we must adopt in terms of combating terrorism,� he told journalists in Accra on Thursday. President Mahama warned last week that there could be a backlash of Ghana�s effort in sending troops to help re-build northern Mali. Meanwhile Ivorian President, Alhassan Quattara has been retained as Chairman of ECOWAS for a second term. The next summit takes place in Abuja, Nigeria.
