Kwabena Oduro, a 27-year-old Fetish priest based at Atwedie near Nkawkaw, is in the grips of the Eastern Regional Police Command for allegedly butchering three students who went to him for financial success. Two of the students, Michael Ofori Agyeman, 21 years old, and Joseph Nyame, whose details were not attained are now deceased as a result of the butchering whereas the third person, Kwadwo Anane, 21 years is still alive but in a critical condition and receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. Agyapong is a student of Kwahu Ridge Senior High School (SHS) whereas Anane is a student of Ngleshi Amanfrom SHS at Kasoa. Briefing the media in Koforidua on Friday, Assistant Commander of Police (ACP) James Abass Abaah, Deputy Regional Commander, narrated that Oduro also known as �Efo� charged the students to bring some amount of money for him to double it for them. The students then visited Efo at his shrine at Atwedie with an amount of GH� 1,800, a lap top and some other materials. ACP Abaah said when the students arrived at the shrine the fetish priest took them to a nearby bush and prepared a concoction for them to drink telling them it would fortify them, �but they however felt drowsy and finally fell unconscious.� He said the priest then butchered the students and bolted with their money, the laptop and the other materials and went into hiding at ziope, a town in the Volta Region. According to the Deputy Commander, the Police was hinted about the incident and rushed to the place only meet two of the boys dead with Anane still having life in him. He said they rushed Anane to KATH and went out in search of Efo, whom they arrested and retrieved all the items. The bodies of the two had since been deposited at the Atibie Hospital at Nkawkaw pending autopsy whereas Efo is in custody pending further investigations. ACP Abaah cautioned the public, especially the youth, who are looking out for short cuts to get rich to be wary of the increasing fetish priests, who promise fortune, spiritual fortification, protection among others, saying, those fetish priests did not seek their good. He advised students and the youth in general to focus on their education and desist from going out to find short cuts to financial freedom, adding that, they must take a cue from the case. �The boys were expected to be in the classroom studying but they went to the fetish priest only to meet their untimely deaths,� he said. ACP Abaah promised the people of the region of the Police�s unflinching commitment to ensuring their security and urged them to cooperate with the police.
