Excessive Corruption In Sports Ministry, Prosecute Culprits Isaac Asiamah

A member of the Sports Committee and minority spokesperson on sports in parliament, Hon. Isaac Asiamah is calling on the Mahama-led administration to impeach members of the Sports Ministry who were named for embezzling funds during the All African Games in Maputo. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is said to have overspent close to 200m cedis in 2012 and cannot account for it. Even though the budget estimates for 2013 have been approved by parliament, the minority members in the Youth and Sports committee are demanding accountability for the monies expended. According to Hon. Isaac Asiamah, the alleged money expended should have been used to develop sports at the regional levels rather than mishandling the funds. 2011 All African Games in Maputo, over eight billion (8 billion) was spent without accounting for. The Maputo report presented to parliament wasnt impressive. Even common sports kits to athletes during the Maputo games werent available for Team Ghana. There were problems with the person handling ticketing; his contract wasnt directed to the right channel. These are all corruptions going on in the Sports Ministry for the past years, he said. In an interview with Happy FM, Hon Isaac Asiamah says, the Speaker of Parliament after reading his report expressed shock at how monies are been disbursed in the Ministry and called for immediate probing. I provided evidence to the Speaker in parliament and he was shocked with the corruption going on in the Sports Ministry, he was shocked, he described the Maputo report as a damning report, that is what (the Speaker) said. there are prescribe sanctions for these culprits by the law if found guilty, so I call on the Attorney General who is the state lawyer to act on this and prosecute the offenders. The law is there so we must punish these individuals who fall victim, he opined. He however said, If the President says he is against corruption, then these are some of the things he (the President) must fight for. The Sports Minister himself has said its a managerial incompetence that is causing all these lapses. There is corruption at the Ministry and someone must be queried.
