THE AMASAMAN District Magistrate Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of one Aisha Saeed Kulego, a 40-year-old woman allegedly known for defrauding people. The accused person is being sought by the court to face charges of defrauding by false pretences and issuing of dud cheque. Aisha, with the intention to defraud, had allegedly issued two cheques with face values of GH30,000 and GH70,000 to one John Amah Aamfo, a businessman in payment of four cars she bought from him. The suspect who always dressed with veil around her head was believed to be hiding at Amasaman, Asylum Down, Nima, Accra New Town and Yeji in Brong Ahafo Region. The Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police has also issued a statement pleading with the general public to assist in locating Aisha. People with information about her are requested to contact the Mile 7 Police or any nearby police station. The facts of the case were that in September 2012, the complainant who deals in cars brought some cars from abroad to sell. Aisha reportedly met the complainant and showed interest in buying one Ford Explorer, Volvo S40, Hyundai Elantra, and Dodge caravan worth GH40,000, GH16,000, GH18,000 and GH10,000 respectively. The complainant entered an agreement with the accused and handed over the vehicles to her on credit basis. The accused reportedly subsequently issued a United Bank of Africa cheque with face value of GH30,000 to the complainant to withdraw it at the Kaneshie branch of the bank on October 5, 2012. However, when the cheque was presented the complainant was informed that the accused did not have such an amount in her account. On November 3, 2012, Aisha issued a Ghana Commercial Bank cheque with face value of GH70,000 to the complainant to withdraw it at Nima, but again, the cheque was rejected by the bank. The complainant, realizing he had been duped, made efforts to retrieve the money or cars, but to no avail. Mr. Aamfo then reported the matter to the police and the accused was invited on several occasions but she did not honour the invitation. A criminal summons was served on her to appear in court but she failed to show up.
