A leading member of the People's National Convention (PNC) and a policy Analyst for the party, Atik Mohammed has slammed the Director of the Ghana Immigration Service, DCOP, Dr. Peter Wiredu, for personally signing documents to permit foreigners from Asia transact business in Ghana and callously harassing the foreigners after they have commenced their business in Ghana. According to him, for Ghana to maintain its sovereignty and continue to provide the cozy environment for foreigners to invest in the country, it will be appropriate for government to ensure Dr. Peter Wiredu and his deputy are fired as soon as possible. He indicted them for deliberately intimidating Chinese miners who have come to ply their trade in the country after they have helped them secure the required documents. �They must not only be fired but an investigation must be conducted to fish out the works they did there�, Mr. Atik advised. The policy analyst for the PNC said if his call is taken lightly, mercenaries and rebels could take over the country because of the way Dr. Peter Wiredu had crumbled the service. �Already we all know about what happened when people cited Ghana as a safe haven for rebels when war broke out in C�te d'Ivoire� Mr. Atik Mohammed revealed that he has personally cited copies of documents to prove that Dr. Peter Wiredu had granted the foreigners he and his crew are harassing with resident permits. ��and when they (Immigration Officers) come out to tell the story, they say it in such a way that you feel the Chinese have conjured all kinds of permit to be in Ghana. I listened to their PRO sometime ago and he stated that some of these signatures are forged but a look at some of the entry visas had original stamp of the director on it�. �Unless they want to tell us that the Immigration Officers at the ports can�t tell the difference between a forged stamp and an original stamp�, he said. Mr. Mohammed jumped unto the defense of the Chinese galamsey operators stating that there is no way they can engage in that trade if they haven�t been granted permits by the Immigration Officers. Speaking on Okay FM, Mr. Mohammed called on the Minister of Interior to ensure Dr. Peter Wiredu abandons his post since he has outlived his usefulness to the Immigration service. �He was to leave on the 6th of March�we appeal to the minister of Interior to fire this man because he has outlived his contract terms�, he requested.
