VRA PRO: Prez Mahama Has Spoken But The Load Shedding Would Still Be Effective At Night

Head of Corporate Affairs at the Volta River Authorithy, Mr. Sam Kwesi Fletcher has kicked against a promise by President Mahama to Ghanaians that his administration would end the off peak load-shedding and the entire load-shedding exercise by the end of April this year. Shedding more light on the technical word which was used by President Mahama, Mr. Fletcher explained that the term off peak load shedding meant that power would be stable during the day and not at night which is contrary to the explanation President Mahama gave. President Mahama in his submission, announced that the load-shedding exercise would now be effective during the day time and that government will also ensure that never again shall we experience the electricity load shedding in the coming years. But reacting to media reports that emerged out of what the president said, the Head of Corporate Affairs at the Volta River Authority told Okay FM that based on the technical word President Mahama used, he can boldly debate him and assure Ghanaians that the load shedding exercise would continue at night though the president says otherwise. He explained that the word off peak as attributed to President Mahama by most media outlets meant that the load shedding would end during the day time and not at night. Mr. Fletcher explained that the person who wrote the story might have erred when he or she deliberately misconstrued the president on the issue. The person who wrote the story might have erred, if he (President Mahama) had said the load shedding would end during peak times, then it meant at night times. Off peak means afternoon and peak means at night times. Peak times are times when we need the electricity most (thus from 6pm to 11 pm). It makes sense if the president said load shedding would end during the off peak periods. This is because the load shedding at afternoon is low compared to that of the night, he explained.
