Association of Ghanaian Medical Doctors Call On Colleague Doctors To Call Off Strike Action

A group calling itself the Association of Ghanaian Medical Doctors has made a call on the striking doctors to call off their strike action in the interest of the nation. The group advised their colleagues in the medical field to look at the bigger picture of the services they deliver to Ghanaians and rescind their decision since according to them, any action that the doctors take should lead to the advancement and improvement of the health status of the citizenry. They appealed to the medical doctors to resist the temptation of sectarian influence on them which has also necessitated their strike action. The Association, in a statement read on Radio Gold Thursday, noted that the declaration of the strike by the executives as a means of solving the problem is inappropriate. As doctors, any action we take should lead to the advancement and improvement of the health status of Ghanaians, especially the poor and the vulnerable. We therefore call on Ghanaian doctors to resist the temptation of sectarian influence but rather bring pressure to bear on the executives to demonstrate their efficacy by adopting legal processes to address the concerns of doctors. The Ghanaian medical doctors also called on the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to speed up efforts to resolve the conflict. We also call on Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to act expeditiously to adhere to and implement the schedule of payment as determined by the NLC. Efforts should also be intensified to resolve the problem of conversion difference and pension difficulties. We wish to call on all doctors to disregard the strike action and work in the interest of mother Ghana and our respected clients. A member of the association, Dr. Alexander Brown urged all doctors to rally support for their course to ensure that the doctors resume work very soon.
