Majority Chief Whip Lampoons NPP - Says "They're Anti-youth"

The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament (MP) for Bodi, Sampson Ahi has charged the opposition New Patriotic Party to rethink their position on how they criticize the Mahama led administration, particularly on his appointments of young people as deputy ministers. In an interview with The Al-Hajj, Hon Ahi who doubles as the Majority Chief Whip in parliament described the insults being heaped on the President for appointing young men and women to the position of deputy ministers as needless, uncalled for and anti-youth. According to him, taking into account the ruling partys interest in youth development, it was more than proper and as a sign of inspiration to the youth for the president to allow relatively young people to serve in his government. The MP, who was recently appointed by President Mahama as deputy Minister designate for Water Resource, Works and Housing and vetted yesterday took a swipe at some members of NPP for the manner in which they sought to denigrate the young appointees as first degree holders. He noted that, leadership was not about credentials or the number of degrees one has, but how to deliver on the mandate and policies of the ruling government. The MP called on the youth to examine the statements being made by communicators of the NPP and reject them in any elections since they dont believe in the development of the youth. According to him, during the days of former President Rawlings and Mills, a lot of young men and women were given the opportunity to serve as either ministers or deputies; a development he said has resulted in the churning out of some leading political figures in the country today. He reminded members of the NPP including their Communication Director, Nana Akomea that, former president Kufour appointed people without any qualification in his administration, citing the example of Hon. I.C. Quaye, who was appointed as Greater Accra Regional Minister when the NPP was in government.
