General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has hit out at members in the New Patriotic Party claiming that the presence of the media and the live streaming of the election petition suit currently before the Supreme Court will make it hard for them to parade their cane-wielding thugs to foment trouble. �We are confident the NPP want to divert the case unto the streets�, he alleged. He was speaking to the media shortly after the Supreme Court adjourned sitting to Wednesday, April 17, 2013. The court's decision was arrived at after lawyers for the petitioners prayed the court not to commence the hearing of the case until they were duly served with the affidavit of the EC.. The Supreme Court therefore adjourned the hearing of the case to allow the EC to file its affidavit by close of Tuesday. According to him, NDC sympathizers would always remain unhurt since the NPP�s plot to invade the court premise with thugs wouldn�t have any effect on them. �People can watch the proceedings at home and won�t fall victim to the NPP�s trap�, he added. In his view, plots by the NPP to divert attention unto the streets will be curtailed and this lead to the avoidance of unnecessary agitations that would have ensued after the court hearings. �We are very encouraged with this media coverage because it would make it difficult for any NPP member to organize thugs to invade this premise,� he said. The irony to Mr. Aseiedu Nketia�s assertion is that some cane-wielding angry supporters, who were dressed in NDC paraphernalia, besieged the premises of the Supreme Court in Accra apparently to whip members of the opposition NPP some months ago when the Supreme Court started processing the NPP�s petition.
