Bantama MP: Lets Pray For The Judges, NPP Leadership, Prez Mahama and the EC

The Bantama Constituency Member of Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu has called on Ghanaians to pray for the nine Supreme Court judges for strength and wisdom as the preside over the 2012 election petition in court. He said prayers should also be said for the NPP leadership, President John Mahama and the Electoral Commission to have Ghana at heart during proceeding in the Supreme Court. He stressed that the petition before the Supreme Court will put a stop to the discrepancies in election results which have happened since 1992 but none has been tested in the court to see the judicial system, the interface and democratic dispensation in the country. Speaking on Okay FM, the lawyer said that those who believe in democracy should honour the NPP petitioners; in that the NPP under the leadership of the late Professor Adu Boahen in 1992 had the opportunity to test the results in court but chose the option to boycott Parliament which though brought many reforms in the country. He again said that the NDC in 2004 had the opportunity to test the Supreme Court with the 2004 election results but the NDC leadership failed to pursue it as he attributed it to lack of interest in the case or lack of evidence. He told Okay FM that the NPP has done well by sending the case to court to address the differences, believing that the victory will be for Ghanaians. According to him Ghanaians will know the true case of the matter when the Supreme Court pronounces its verdict on the petition; stressing that though the affidavits the petitioners have sent to the Supreme Court are many, the judges will surely come out with a verdict. He however said that the purpose of the innumerable evidence before the Supreme Court is that every court case is about substantive evidence. He expressed hope that at the end of the Supreme Court ruling, Ghana will be victorious and we will have credible electoral process and every vote will be counted so that nobody can sit anywhere and decide who should be President in the country.
