Mr Julius Debrah, Greater Accra Regional Minister on Friday commended Ga Central Municipal Assembly for the success chalk out so far after barely two years of its operation.
He said the Assembly has exhibited much commitment and devotion to improving the lives of people living in and around the municipality.
Mr Debrah made the observation during the second staff durbar of the Municipal Assembly, in Accra.
Mr Debrah said the Assembly should serves as a channel through which the grievances of the people should be channelled to the various departments and ministries responsible.
He said: �The governing system has been decentralised through the introduction of the Municipal and District Assemblies to provide infrastructural development and social services.�
He urged the Municipal Assembly to try as much as possible to be abreast of time and have a positive change of attitude towards work.
Mr Aristo Aryee, Municipal Chief Executive said the Assembly since its inauguration has made progress in the areas of revenue generation, implementation of projects and programmes, security and health management.
He said in spite of all these progresses the Assembly is faced with challenges which include delay in the release of funds, poor road network, boundary demarcation, and waste management.
Mr Aryee said the Assembly has introduced a number of interventions to address the challenges but would still need support from government.
�The Assembly is in the process of acquiring some identified lands for public use in areas within the municipality, and has also initiated the review and regularisation of most unapproved planning schemes,� he stated.
He said the Assembly is also embarking on public education and eventually decentralised development control to the zonal council level.
The Assembly is fast tracking the processing of development of building permits to curb developer�s indiscipline and began the process of equipping the town and Country Planning Department and the Workers Department to deliver on their mandate.
