Car Rental Companies To Be Graded In Stars

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, may soon consider grading car rental companies in the country into categories one to five-star as part of efforts to improve their services. The idea was mooted during a meeting between the management of Eurostar Global Limousine Limited, an international car rental company, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare and officials of the ministry in Accra. In his welcoming remarks, the Director of Human Resource Development at the ministry, Mr Kwabena Asante-Donkor said such a move will be very important as it will encourage operators in the car renting business to give of their best at all times. There is the need for more discussions between the ministry and the private sector to share business ideas, he said. The director also congratulated Eurostar on bringing some appreciable level of excellence to the car rental service in Ghana. The Minister, Mrs Ofosu Adjare repeated the ministrys willingness to partner the private sector to accelerate efforts to develop Ghanas tourism industry. Our goal is to promote sustainable tourism, where tourists will always want to come back to Ghana. We are therefore very much interested in fruitful collaborations with the private sector, she pointed out. The Managing Director of Eurostar, Mr Walid Zoobi, noted that though tourism was a fast growing industry, there were a lot of challenges in the sector and his company had come to help raise the standard of the car rental business in Ghana. The Managing Director, who was accompanied by Ms Dorothee Traore, Sales Executive at Eurostar, decried the standard of car rental services in Ghana, saying that his company is aware that the nations reputation is at stake, hence the decision to establish the headquarters of Eurostar in Ghana to help improve the sector. He said Eurostar currently has operations in Cote DIvoire and plans were underway to open branches in four more African countries in the next few months.
