The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has commended Ghana, under President John Dramani Mahama, for broadening the mandate of the Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry. The ILO also commended Ghana for playing a lead role in the fight against the elimination of child labour in the world. ILO Country Director for English Speaking ECOWAS countries, Mrs Sina Chuma-Mkandawire said this in Accra during interaction with the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Nana Oye Lithur on Monday. She called for the strengthening of coordination among agencies and institutions working for the elimination of worse forms of child labour in the country. The ILO also discussed projects on HIV/AIDS and the world of work which was adopted by member states at the 99th session of the ILO in June 2010 which centered on Child Labour and ILO�s Social Intervention programmes. Nana Oye Lithur expressed Ghana�s gratitude to ILO for its continuous collaboration with the country and used the occasion to brief the ILO team of the new and expanded mandate of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection. Other institutions which called on the Minister include National Pensioners Association of SSNIT, Mental Health Society and the Disability Board.
