A Deputy Director of Communications for the NPP and also the spokesperson for Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has challenged those against the live telecast of the 2012 election petition to appreciate Chief Justice Georgina Woode�s directive since the telecast will not affect productivity in anyway. According to him, if the country lacks good leadership which he believes is happening now, productivity will be worse than what others are thinking the live telecast will bring. �The cost of enumeration however high is far better than the danger of darkness. It�s for a reason why the election petition is being telecast and this wouldn�t last for long. How would this affect our productivity? If there is no leadership, productivity will go down anyway, if there is directionless, productivity will still go down,� he said. Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood gave the directive that the hearing of the 2012 election petition filed by the NPP against the NDC and EC should be telecast live by the nation�s broadcaster GTV and Radio Ghana. Before the beginning of the substantive hearing, the nine panel judge unanimously ruled that all the court proceedings on the election petition case be broadcast live on TV. Justice Atuguba who gave the ruling for the live telecast stated that elections in the country come with a lot of tension and acrimony and therefore it was proper for the proceedings to be telecast live on TV. But the Managing editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has criticized the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood for engaging in an illegality by undermining the judgment of the nine judges not to permit live telecast of the election petition case being heard by the Supreme Court. Kwesi Pratt decried Justice Georgina Wood on Radio Gold's �Alhaji & Alhaji� for using a �mere administrative feat� to overturn a legal ruling of the justices led by Justice Atuguba. Speaking on Asempa FM, Yaw Buabeng opined �it�s for a reason why the election petition is being telecast, so we must appreciate that in good faith. This has helped all to understand the court proceedings. This will help expose the false reports from the court room since we are all watching�.
