GMA Bares Teeth: We Ain't Going To Co-operate With NLC Again

Dr. Frank Serebuo, the General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has emphatically stated that the Doctors would not be prepared to co-operate with the National Labour Commission (NLC) on any issue in the future and would not honour any invitation from them. As for Labour Commission, I dont think when it comes to the GMA they would able to deal with us again, and they would have to take us to court. We are not in any way going to deal with them in any effective way. Any time they invite us, we wont go and they would have to take us to court, he said. According to him, if all other unions follow suit, the National Labour Commission would collapse. The obviously frustrated GMA General Secretary made these comments on Adom FM on Monday, during which he accused the NLC of always looking at one side of the coin. Dr. Serebous harsh critic of the constitutionally mandated body to handle labour issues comes on the back of a law suit filed against the GMA by the NLC for embarking on what they describe as an illegal industrial action. He however stated that the law suit by the NLC betrays the fact that it is bias in the discharge of its duties. On his word, I am surprised the NLC now has money to sue us. When it came to light that the committee that met us to negotiate the conversion rate for doctors did not have the mandate to do so, we impressed on the Commission to take the government on but refused, claiming it was cash trapped. The Medical practitioner was surprised the NLC has found money all of a sudden; even at a time the government claims it has no money, to prosecute a case against them. Dr. Frank Serebuo maintained that the NLC would have no option than to sue GMA in all subsequent issues because the latter would cease to co-operate with the Commission.
