Paa Kwesi Nduom Pleads With Doctors to End Strike Action

A member of the communication team of the Progressive People's Party, (PPP) Charles Owusu has said his partys founder, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom who is currently out of the country is humbly pleading with the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to consider the less privileged and end their three-week strike action. Speaking on Adom FM, Charles Owusu believes attempt by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to drag the Ghana Medical Association to court is a very disturbing one since that is what is triggering the negotiation between government and the doctors. The approach by the NLC to drag doctors to court was wrong. We are dealing with Ghanaian doctors here not expatriate doctors, so if the NLC is thinking taking doctors to court is what will resolve matter, then that is a wrong move. That approach was totally wrong and some individuals are also worsening matters by making unnecessary comments in the media, I dont think doctors will be happy if they hear such comments made by those politicians. Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom who is not in the country called and asked me on his behalf to plead with the doctors, that though government have not heard to their plight, they shouldnt listen to the provoking comments from the government and politicians to let Ghanaians suffer from their strike actions, he said. According to him, it is totally rubbish for someone to call for pension doctors to work whiles doctors are on strike, as well as encouraging the use of herbal medicine. If they are calling on pension doctors to work, wont the government pay those pension doctors? They (government) have to sign an agreement with the pension doctors before they will also start work. Wouldnt that be a waste of money? If you have the money why dont you then pay the doctors who are on strike? That will never work. We should solve this problem. This is not an issue of the NPP and NDC, its a national issue and we must solve this together, he advised. Charles Owusu however emulated his party founder and beseeched the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to heed to the pleas of Ghanaians and call off their strike since the less privileged are the ones suffering the most.
