5 People, Including 3 KMA Staff Confirmed Dead In Accident

Five persons, three of them staff of the Manhyia Sub Metropolitan office in Kumasi, died when a Nissan Urvan mini bus on which they were travelling ran into a ditch at Abofour in the Offinso South Municipal Area on Saturday evening. The deceased included three females and two males. Their remains had been deposited at the St. Patrick�s Hospital at Maase-Offinso. Ten others on board the vehicle including the driver, were also staff of the sub-metro office. They received various degrees of injury and were on admission at the St. Patrick�s Hospital. Speaking to the Graphic Online, Chief Inspector Mr E.K. Adjei of Abofour Police Station named four of the dead as Nana Poku, Stephen Amanya, Auntie Adwoa and one Florence. Those on admission included Richard Kwaku Agyei, 28, Joseph Agyapong, 57, J.F. Danko, 56, Agyenim Boateng, 48 and Rhoda Ijano, 39. The rest were Asamoah Damoah, 35, Matilda Opoku, 32, Akwasi Owusu and Collins Frimpong, whose ages were not known. Chief Inspector Adjei said the vehicle belonged to the sub metro office. The staff had attended a funeral at Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo Region that day and were returning to Kumasi when the accident occurred. On reaching Abofour on the Techiman-Kumasi highway at about 5.00pm the driver lost control of the vehicle. In the process, the Nissan Urban bus with the registration number GT 1791-10 ran into a ditch and landed in the nearby bush killing three on the spot. Two others died later on arrival at the hospital.
