Jinapor Reinstated

The embattled Buipewura, Abdulai Mahama Jinapor II was reinstated last Friday after a protracted feud between himself and the paramount chief of the Gonja Traditional area, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Eassa I. The Buipewura was deskinned a couple of years ago following reports that he pulled a gun in an attempt to shoot the overlord of the Gonja Traditional area. The Gonja Paramountcy, in consultation with the kingmakers of the area, unanimously took the decision to relieve him of his duties following his alleged remorseful behavior towards the Gonja King. A letter signed by the Yagbonwura and other kingmakers of the area was subsequently forwarded to him and various stakeholders about the decision. They warned him to desist from holding himself as Buiperuwaa. One Bawa Jewu Awushi Lebu II was later enskinned Buipewura by the Yagbonwura which almost resulted in bloodshed. The aggrieved Mahama Abdulai Jianpor II , who expressed dissatisfied with the Yagbonwura and his kingmakers, took legal action and judgment was delivered in his favour. The respondents however refused to implement the Tamale High Court 2 ruling and sought for an appeal which they lost. They ignored the directive to reinstate him, stressing that his alleged conduct smacks of disrespect to the Yagbonwura. The interventions and deliberation with various stakeholders in the chieftaincy institution got the Yagbonwura to reverse his decision last Friday to reinstate him as Chief of Buipe and permanent secretary of the Gonja Traditional council. It was all joy at the palace of the Yagbonwura as the Buipewura paid allegiance to the paramount chief. He laid prostrate before him in accordance with the customs of the Gonja people. The rival chief was immediately given the title of a sub-chief. He was asked to swear allegiance to Jinapor, the substantive Chief of the area. The new Buipewura thanked the kingmakers of Gonjaland and the various mediators who impressed on the Yagbonwura to soften his stance on the matter.
