The Ashanti Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the ghastly incident that occurred on Wednesday at Ashtown, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Two persons were reportedly butchered and shot dead by unidentified assailants.
The victims were said to have escorted a Member of Parliament for Manhyia, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, on a house to house campaign tour and inflicted wounds on some people at the locality, prior to the 2012 general elections.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Yussif Tanko, Public Relations Officer of the Regional Police Command, in an interview with Joy FM recounted that the Police upon reaching the crime scene found two empty catridges purported to have been shot by the assailants but could not tell if they identified other materials.
According to him, two assailants were seen on motorbikes while the others were in a vehicle before perpetrating such crime.
The Police as at Wednesday, May 8, 2013 had not arrested any of the thugs but ASP Yussif Tanko stated strongly that the Police are on the alert and hunting for the hideout of the criminals.
He told Joy FM the Police Command has deployed officers to the area to control the situation since they fear the people may retaliate leading to public turbulence.
The Police, he indicated, are �investigating the issue. Policemen have been sent to the area to ensure the safety of persons and also of property�Investigations are ongoing. We will try to trace the guys who perpetrated and ensure that the law takes its full course.�
�We are also entertaining the fear that some people might also decide to also retaliate or something, so, we�ve deployed men. We�ve briefed them well and they are on the ground. We are planning to augment their strength and ensure that we are able to control any situation that comes up.�
