Kofi Jumah: Heads Must Roll In The Police Service; They Just Fancy Stars As Honours

Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa in the Ashanti Region is calling on the President to let heads roll in the uppermost hierarchy of the Ghana police Service, since the police are incapable of handling recent killings in the Kumasi metropolis. According him, it is not only Kumasi which is not safe but the country as a whole is not in safe hands of the Police Service because what is expected of them to protect the citizens has proven ineffectual. The former Mayor of Kumasi is also purported to have hinted last week that, residents of Kumasi are no longer safe to live in the metropolis due to what he terms as can be avoided killings. To him, current fierceness happening in Kumasi must be blamed on the Ghana Police Service personnel in Kumasi since their inability to deal with perpetrators has been the cause of all the violence. In an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, Kofi Jumah alleged that, senior officers of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) only relish the honors given to them but refuse to work on the ground. Ghana Police Service (GPS) needs institutional changes because we cannot run Ghana in the hands of the police now. They just fancy putting on the stars as an honour, meanwhile their personnel on the ground are not working. They (the police service) dont have a proper form of training after the police school for the newly recruited personnel. There must be institutional changes because what is going on in the Police institution is not good. Lets not politicize the recent crimes in Kumasi. The Police are not helping situations. I will not be okay if the police are not doing their work and the cliques are taking over Kumasi to commit crimes and escort free. We cant behave as if everything is okay, he said
