African countries must add value to export commodities-Iddrisu

The Minister of Trade, Haruna Iddrisu, on Tuesday urged African countries to add value to their primary export commodities to enable them to sustain and accelerate the socio-economic growth on the continent. Mr Iddrisu, who gave the advice at the Second Africa Congress of Accountants organised in Accra, said increased intra-African trade, provision of reliable supply of energy and infrastructure at reasonable prices to businesses were other measures critical for sustainable growth. He said the rule of law should be fully applied to check public sector corruption. Mrs Angela Peasah, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), expressed optimism that Congress participants would be equipped with innovative ideas to effect positive changes in their respective institutions and businesses. The three-day Congress, which is being organised by the Pan-African Federation of Accountants, is in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and ICAG.
