We Don't Need Einstein To Tell Us How To Prevent Market Fires - Kofi Jumah

Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency has opined that the creation of specialized markets for the sale of particular goods could go a long way in curbing the recent fire outbreaks and destruction of property at market places. According to him, he was not surprised to learn that fire had gutted the Makola No. 2 Market, after similar fires engulfed the Kumasi Central, Asafo, Kantamanto and recently the Dome markets because of the way and manner markets across the country are designed, and the kind of goods being sold there. I saw the footage on television and I thought the inferno was sizzling, but I was not surprised because I remember saying any more such fires would not be surprising, he told Adakabre on Adom FM. The former Parliamentarian was of the view that newly built markets like the Kaneshie Central Market have not experienced any such incidents of fire outbreaks because they are well planned. According to him, government could easily end these unfortunate if it has the political will to do so. He proposed that fire drills should also be conducted in all the markets across the country as a first step to addressing the issue and further called for designated sale of particular goods at particular markets. we do not need Einstein to come and tell us what to do to prevent fires because we know what brings about these fires. Certain items like paints, oils, plastics and other volatile items must not be allowed to be sold in the central markets, he opined.
