Four Arrested Over Social Security Contributions

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has caused the arrest of the top management executives of four companies who defaulted in the payment of their employees contributions. The four are Mr Sallah Marius, whose company the Carribean Atlantics Holdings-owed GH116,048.46; Mr Kofi Datsa of Discoverytel Gh Ltd who owed GH107,546.42; Mr John S.B. Quansah of Sovereign International School, for arrears of GH3,121.58; and Mr Samuel Keelson and George Acheampong of Samgeo Logistics for GH3,121.58 owed by their company. Mr Alfred Dakla of Divine Wisdom Academy was also arrested for owing GH1,297.40 as social security contributions for his employees. The arrests were effected after bench warrants were issued by some courts in Accra authorizing SSNIT to do so. A statement from the trust said it sought for the arrest warrants after the employers had failed to turn up in court to answer charges of non-payment of social security contributions and penalty preferred against them by the Accra North Area Office of the trust. The statement quoted the Accra North Area Manager of SSNT, Mrs Rosemary Amerley Sackey, as saying employers will no longer get away with defaulting in the payment of SSNIT contributions. She said the trust had resolved to enforce compliance of the Pensions Act in order to protect the economic security of all employees in the country. The statement also mentioned that Mr Richard Cudjoe of Brilliant Way International School was arrested on another bench warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of non-submission of contribution reports, covering April 2011 to November 2012.
