Minister Questions Renaming Of Ghana Water Company

The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Akwasi Oppong Fosu says failure in the formulation and implementation of policies to deal with sewage is a contributory factor to the insanitary conditions in the country. Speaking on Tea Cup on Radio Gold this Monday, he sought to find out the rationale behind the renaming of Ghana Water and Sewage Corporation to Ghana Water Company. The Minister questioned the reasons for the companys change of name and wondered why it has become negligent in treating sewage in the nation. Touching on some sanitary measures to rid the country of filth, Hon. Oppong Fosu was of a strong view that liquid and solid waste emanating from different sources should be put into good use and thus called on the Assembly and authorities to manage it well. He also urged Ghanaians to discipline themselves and keep their environments under good hygienic conditions. When the Ghana Water was established and we left the sewage out and said the assemblies should do that, we didnt put in place the right approach to itWe need to really allocate the resources to have the infrastructure to deal with solid and liquid waste, he said.
