Takoradi to have modern Light Industrial Enclave by July 15

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) in collaboration with a South African private investor are developing a modern Light Industrial Enclave (LID) for artisans in Takoradi to befit an oil city. Announcing this at a meeting with the artisans in Takoradi on Wednesday, Mr Peter Kow Obosu, a contractor with the Peekob Company Limited said the 58 acre enclave sited at Kansaworado, a suburb of Takoradi would be ready for operation by July 15. He said the enclave would have infrastructural amenities such as water, electricity, place of convenience, roads and sites for training schools, among others. Mr Obosu said a South African company, the Western Development Consortium Limited (WDCL) with some Ghanaian partners have purchased the 22 acre land at Tanokrom currently used by the artisans to develop it into a Shopping Mall and other ventures. Mr Mamoud Ali, Presiding Member for STMA impressed on the artisans to willingly relocate to the new settlement as the location is so strategic to boost their business. All the speakers, including the local and national executives of the artisans association asked the artisans to agree to move to their new location when the time comes. While some of the artisans are protesting against their relocation blaming it on obscurity, whilst others have agreed to move on condition that all the necessary facilities be provided to enhance their work.
